Cal Ripken Jr., otherwise known as ‘Iron Man’, is an American legendary baseball player. He earned the moniker from his incredible and historical position as shortstop. He began ‘the streak’ (the longest stretch of consecutive games totalling 2,632), and became recognised as a 19-Time-All-Star champion and two-time American League Most Valuable Player (1983). He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007.

His undeniably remarkable achievements are to be commended by his hard work and sheer devotion. Cal was known for his work ethic and perseverance that ultimately transformed him into a national icon, that has been described to have saved baseball from its darkest point. His actions are recognised as he is also a two-time Gold Glove Award winner who holds the unbeatable record for consecutive games played and surpassed Lou Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 that stood for 56 years.
